There is only one secret ingredient that makes RE
successful: your presence. Please bring your children
regularly, talk to them frequently about what is going on in RE, and
volunteer your time and talent when asked. We currently offer four class
levels designed to best serve the developmental needs of our
children.
Infants, Toddlers, and Preschoolers (0-4 years) get to know their peers and some of the caring adults in the
church, in a safe, loving and nurturing environment. The nursery / preschool room is available from 10:20 until 11:45 every Sunday morning for children 4 years old and younger. Preschoolers will be invited to participate in a short circle time with a story and activity. Please sign your
child in and out each week.
The Elementary Class (grades K-5) is exploring a World of New Friends. Each Sunday the class meets, 3 age groupings will rotate through stations with activities designed for various learning styles and interests. The program is based on a Unitarian Universalist curriculum enjoyed by many congregations. The children are led by seven volunteer teachers and assistants, with two or three present each Sunday.
The Middle School Youth (grades 6-8) are learning about faith communities in the local area
through the popular Unitarian Universalist curriculum Neighboring Faiths, which includes visits to houses of worship. A Coming of Age program is also being offered by 7th and 8th graders. Participants will learn more about Unitarian Universalism and themselves, while being supported by the minister, DRE, their teachers and mentors. The class is led by five volunteer teachers and assistants, with at least two adults present for each class session and field trip.
Social Justice Sundays are scheduled in RE once a month for children in kindergarten through 8th grade. They will meet together to put their faith into action. On many of these Sundays members or friends active in social justice will lead or assist in activities and projects related to initiatives at UUS.
The High School Youth Group (grades 9-12) integrates the five components of a
successful youth program to create their own dynamic group. The components are worship, leadership, learning, social action and fellowship.
The group meets with their adult advisors from noon to 1 PM three Sundays a month. They will design and lead a worship service. Field trips and lock-ins are also planned. Youth are encouraged to attend intergenerational activities, such as worship services and Game Nights.
