 Summer Lists
Time has a way of sneaking up on us. Have you noticed it, too? June is halfway over as I begin writing this column (my first as president of the UUS Board of Trustees!), and July is right around the corner. I have already begun making a list of things I want to do this summer because I know that July and August will go by really fast and if I don’t make a list, summer will be over and I will be left wondering what I did with all the time. Why am I sharing my compulsive nature with you? Because there are two items on my list that include you!
Summers at UUS are more relaxed; more people wear shorts and we have more lay-led services. But there is a lot going on this summer.
Last spring we held four Cottage Conversations to hear what was important to you and where you wanted this congregation to go. The Strategic Planning Committee took all that information and condensed it into our Strategic Plan. We will hold two town-hall meetings this summer to present this plan to you. It’s available on our web site (log in, select Activities, then Annual Meeting), but I think you’ll enjoy the summary presentation more.
There was amazing consistency among the Cottage Conversations, as you will see in the presentation. One area of commonality was Social Justice. At each meeting, people talked about wanting to live their faith by getting involved in our larger community. We will be holding two Social Justice planning meetings this summer to decide what we want to do next year. Plan on attending one or both of these meetings and let us know what projects light your UU fire.
There will be reminders and more information closer to each meeting, but for now, please put these dates in your calendars:
Social Justice meetings – July 12 and August 16
Strategic Plan presentations – July 19 and August 23
Child care will be available for all four meetings.
As you make your lists for these summer months, be sure to include UUS Sunday services and these town hall meetings.
