This month’s liturgical theme reminds me of thePeter Mayer song “Everything is Holy Now” that the choir sang earlier thisyear. I look around me and see my amaryllis and tulips growing from bulbs that lastweek appeared to be dead. I see trees changing from wintery dried up branchesto lacy displays of dainty blossoms and tiny bright green leaves. I get newsthat my grand-nephew is taking his first steps. Wow! And my oldest grandsonwill be starting college in the fall. Life really is a miracle. And no matterhow you understand this miracle, reverence is really the only response. I don’tclaim to know how this miracle occurs; I just see that life is a cycle of life, sleep, new life, and death. There is no response but reverence. Every springnew life pops up from the earth, babies are born, and doesn’t it just feel likethe earth is singing? There is no response but reverence. Then the heat ofsummer comes; some plants don’t really start to grow until summer is here andsome die off – especially if you forget to water them (but water is a topic foranother day). Then it’s fall and the leaves begin their magical change of colorbefore falling to the ground. There is no response but reverence. Now I’m notreally a winter person but you cannot deny the beauty of crisp clear winterdays and snow covered fields. The earth is resting before the cycle beginsanew. There is no response but reverence.
