Our Children’s RE Program is designed to create opportunities for creative expression, justice work, peer collaboration, and reflection with a focus on interactive experiences in a mixed age format.

Our Soul Matters theme for the month of January is integrity, which is defined by C.S. Lewis as “doing the right thing when no one is watching.” As Katie Covey points out, children learn what is right and wrong by trying different behaviors and seeing how others react to them. She writes that “Too often integrity is framed in terms of good and bad people, of people knowing what’s right and either following or ignoring it. But we know that it’s more complicated than that.” So this month in RE, our sessions will be focusing on using curiosity and creativity to sort out complex problems and exploring the “adventure of integrity.”

Families can continue the discussion about integrity at home by reading the story “The Empty Pot” or by watching “Mary Poppins” and talking about how the characters learn or teach integrity. Families can also participate in the “Thirty Days of Love” activity calendar together.

1/5: PreK and Elementary school children in RE will practice putting beliefs into actions by learning how to “walk the talk.”
1/12: All children are invited to stay in the sanctuary for our monthly intergenerational service. The nursery will be available. High School Youth Group will meet today at UUCS at 12:30 p.m. today in the mezzanine.
1/19: Children in PreK and Elementary school will learn about working together in a group, while valuing individual worth today in RE.
1/26: The PreK- Elementary school RE class will explore how to find inner strength and courage. The middle school group will also meet during the service today.

For the 2019/20 church year we are embarking on a new adventure in Religious Exploration using Soul MattersSoul Matters is a collection of resources centered around a monthly theme which weaves itself throughout our church experience. Worship, Religious Exploration and Adult Small Groups will all be pulling from these resources to better facilitate an experience that extends beyond our congregation walls on Sundays and around the dinner table the rest of the week.
