Building a loving, diverse, caring community

Immigration Task Force

The Immigration Task Force is building the world we dream about within and beyond the walls of our congregation, welcoming the stranger, forging bonds and building bridges with our immigrant neighbors, and healing the wounds of separation between ourselves and others, so we may act daily, in collaboration, on our commitment to justice.

The ITF meets on the first Sunday of every month, at 12:15 PM in the Mezzanine.

UUCS supported a rally for immigration reform in Herndon, VA on May 1st. Marchers went to Rep Frank Wolf’s office to urge him to support reform, and Wolf’s Chief of Staff heard the voices of many. Pictures of our members at the march are available here.

We are so thrilled to announce that 6 families in our congregation have agreed to spend time building connections with an immigrant family! Our goal is to have 10 UUCS families matched with immigrant families by the end of February. The goal of the program is for families to get together, approximately once a month to share experiences, language, culture, etc… Activities could be as simple as library or McDonalds outings, going to the library, playing at the park or the kids doing homework together. The commitment made by both the UUCS and immigrant family is very flexible. We are also hoping to have events at UUCS such as movie or game nights and potlucks. It is not necessary for you to be a family with children. You could be a family of one or pair with another family of one at UUCS! There is endless potential for fun, cultural exchange and the chance to enrich and be enriched by sharing experiences. Please consider joining us!
