Reclaiming Religious Language for U.U. Mission – Since its introduction in early Christianity, the phrase kingdom of heaven has taken on meanings originally foreign to it, and Jesus of Nazareth’s real mission has been obscured by the authors of scripture, all of whom had their own agendas. Words like resurrection, conservative, and even social justice have all been similarly distorted, even though all of them, properly defined, can represent vital concepts in Unitarian Universalist mission. This sermon explores truths and extracts meaning about our ethical religious mission through the lens of a vocabulary that rightfully belongs to us.
